Been a while....

The blog was obviously on hiatus for a wee bit. I've started as a T.A. in the 3D department of the Vancouver Film School, and so far I'm really enjoying it! Here are some recent sketches. Some exploratory thumbnails, and a rendering that somehow materialized during a class. More to come!

Faces!

Here are a couple of portraits out of a National Geographic I had. The older fellow is bigger than my wussy little scanner hence the fragmented result.

Playing around in painter a few months ago. Ya lasers.

Monday, May 4, 2009

There was a protest at the library on Sunday, a good opportunity for observation and life drawing. I spent most of the time just looking but a few drawings came out too. A very interesting situation. I really enjoy watching raw human interaction like this, always inspiring.

Some quick facial expressions I did this morn. Then I drew them. The three with gray hair were some preliminary studies.

Figure Drawing

Some life drawing from sun/friday. I always like to change my approach when I'm drawing. As a teacher recently told me and I'm para phrasing; "the more ways you have to look at the model, the more tools you have to represent it".Here I was working on being a little more exact with the placement/measurement of things, and, recognizing silhouette by acknowledging under lying structure.

Movie Doodles...

I was watching the animated version of "Return of the King" today, I really like the design in it, and "The Hobbit". I was drawing randomly as I watched. Some of my favorite drawings are done when you're doing something else at the same time.

Playing in corel painter is my new favorite pass time. There's so many fun tools! Here are couple of tired explorations before bed. Its a shame I can't figure out how to export decent images though. Hooray for computers!

Sketch Book Randomness.

Some random faces from a coffee shop and a couple concepts out of the sketch book. I'm thinking it's about time to get all this stuff together into some sort of "portfolio" format.

Sketch Book Stuff

Some stuff I've done in my spare time. Field studies and tiger/big cat studies. I saw the elephant buying a coffee I swear. It was an americano with 10 000 shots in it. Large mammal strength.

Keep It Cool Daddy-O

In regards to the previous post, hooray for felt pens, photoshop and simplicity. On another note (hahahaha) this is for my papa.

Here's some sea monsters I found lying around. I tried "cleaning them up", which are the smaller drawings, and I think loose their appeal as a result. I find it really difficult to "add" to an idea by defining things like that. I suppose I should just look at what other people have done and learn what aesthetics are.

Morning Monsters!

There was a rad f-ing dance session at the Cambie last night, I'm pretty sure I saw these folks getting their groove on.
